Imphal, September 1, 2019:

A large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered in Manipur by a combined team of Imphal East district police commandos and 5 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles. The recovery was the result of a massive cordon and search operation at Sandang Sengba Maring village, under Andro Police Station in Imphal East district in Manipur.

Two AK 56 assault rifles with magazines, 10 AK 56 live ammunition, two 9 mm pistols with magazines and one M-20 pistols were recovered after being dug up at an area of an abandoned school building at the said village on Saturday afternoon. No one has been been arrested so far in connection with the incident.

Haobijam Jogeshchandra, Superintendent of Police, Imphal East, district said that as per reliable information from 5 JK Rifles regarding the presence of some armed cadres in and around the said village, a combined team of police commandos and a column 5 JK Rifles rushed to the spot and launched a massive house-to-house search operation. The items were discovered buried underground.
