Manipur: Ima Keithel's Illegal Shop Owners Ordered to get Licences

Imphal, July 20, 2019:

The Manipur state Government has started cleaning the drains in Imphal city to help in keeping Asia’s largest women’s marketm Ima Keithel, neat and clean. Meanwhile, illegal shop owners were asked to get their shop licences and follow necessary Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) guidelines at the earliest.

Under the overall supervision of the Manipur MAHUD Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar, the IMC has started cleaning the drains in the Khwairamband Bazaar (Ima market) from Thursday. The Minister said the cleaning of drains will continue in the coming days in various places of Greater Imphal.

Addressing the media persons, Minister Th. Shyamkumar announced that from Friday onwards, the IMC officials will start a drive to inspect shops and those found violating IMC guidelines will attract legal action under the Manipur Municipalities Act, 1994.

He appealed to the shop owners to get their shops licence and follow necessary IMC guidelines like registration of shops, using dust bins, availing facility of door to door garbage collection and timely payment of tax, among others.

When asked about illegal encroachment of the footpath by mobile vendors and others, the minister said that the government will also attract legal action against them. He asked the mobile vendors like sugarcane juice sellers, tea sellers, among others, to get registration from the IMC immediately.

Stating that the street vendors of the Ima Keithel have been allotted a particular time in the morning and evening so that they can sell vegetables and other products, he requested the street vendors to use dustbins and clean their areas after finishing their work to help in keeping Asia’s largest women’s market neat and clean. Shyamkumar further appealed to the citizens of the State to cooperate with the IMC officials during the drive.
