As part of International Day of Yoga observed across the world under the theme Yoga for Harmony and Peace, today, the 4th International Day of Yoga was observed at Darbar Hall, Raj Bhavan. Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla stated that “We all should take the pledge to practice Yoga in our everyday life and we should commit ourselves to practice Yoga, as it is beneficial for the body as well as for the soul also we must take pride in the fact that the ancient practice of Yoga originated in our Country and we should promote and spread the message of Yoga to the rest of the world”.
Expressing her gratitude to the instructors of Shri Ravishankar, Art of Living, Manipur Chapter for demonstrating the different Yoga postures and the Ayush Department, she said that on the occasion of International Day of Yoga the people of the State must commit to include the different Ashanas of Yoga as a daily routine.
Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla performed various Ashanas along with Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Smt. Nemcha Kipgen, Staffs of Governor Secretariat, school children and volunteers of Art of Living.
Moreover yoga day is also celebrated at scenic Khuga dam, as joining the rest of the world in celebrating the 4th International Day of Yoga, District Administration, Churachandpur organized the Day with the theme ‘Yoga for Harmony and Peace’ at the bank of the scenic and breathtaking Khuga Dam, one of the district’s most iconic tourists’ attractions.
Yoga enthusiasts in hundreds including students turned up for the occasion to perform Yoga asanas and meditative breathing. A cleanliness drive was also taken up around Khuga Dam by the Autonomous District Council (ADC), Churachandpur to mark the occasion.
Speaking at the occasion, Shri Shyam Lal Poonia, DC, Churachandpur exhorted the students and all concerned present on the occasion to motivate their friends and family members to take up yogic exercise daily for their fitness and physical well being. Expressing serious concern to make the district a ‘clean district,’ the DC also urged all concerned to extend maximum cooperation to the cleanliness exercise being taken up in and around Khuga Dam. He urged all concerned to use designated dustbins and not to litter the area. To mark the occasion, a tree plantation drive was also taken up by the Forest Department wherein saplings of different tree varieties were planted around the picturesque Khuga Dam.
