He urged the citizens to adhere to the COVID protocols and guidelines laid down by the government.

As it can spread at a much higher rate than the alpha variant, the state government advised the citizens to wear masks at home at all times and to follow strict COVID appropriate behaviors if someone in the family is infected with COVID-19.

The variant was first discovered in India and it has been classified as a "variant of concern" by the centers for disease control and prevention.

This variant is 1.6 times more transmissible as compared to Alpha.

The Chief Minister also held a meeting with Ministers, MPs, and ruling MLAs to discuss the Govt's steps to further intensify the fight against the COVID pandemic earlier on Friday.

"Matters regarding ensuring sufficient supply of oxygen, intensifying vaccination drive, and relief work were thoroughly discussed", he said.
