IMPHAL: In an unfortunate incident, two teenagers Laishram Solomon,17, and Laishram Jasua, 13 died on Monday after a wooden country-made canoe they were in collapsed in the Kumbi Khuga river in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.

The fateful incident of the minor siblings is said to have taken place at around 5:30 AM on Monday.

According to the sources, the third subling Laishram David, a 15-year-old survived the calamity.

The three siblings were reportedly on their way to a paddy field on a routine day, according to sources. David, who had survived the incident, had called for assistance.

The community hurried to the scene after hearing about the tragedy and searched for Jausa and Solomon. Around at 7.30 a.m., villagers pulled out their bodies.

At the nearest Primary Health Centre in Kumbi, the two brothers were declared dead.

According to the sources, The Frontier Manipur, Kumbi Urban Development Committee (KUDC) president Nongmaithem Prakash expressed shock at the incident and claimed that the unfortunate incident occurred as a result of the family's poor economic situation.

Wahengbam Rorkychand the secretary of Kumbi Urban Development Committee, urged the state government and other relevant authorities to assist the needy family.
