Imphal, July 6, 2019:

A team led by Ashem Chinglen Meitei of the Thoubal district Commando unit presently attached in Jiribam district in Manipur while conducting frisking and checking of suspected persons near the Irawat crossing at Jiribam in on Friday, apprehended a woman who was moving in a suspicious manner and detained her for doing formal verification.

The team checked her belongings with the help of women police personnel. During the checking, 48 packets containing 9,600 World is Yours tablets were detected from the possession of the woman, namely, Kholneilhhing Chongloi (44).

The arrested woman and seized WY tablets are being handed over to the Jiribam Police Station .A regular case was registered under FIR no 26(7)2019 u/s 22(c) NDPS ACT at Jiribam Police Station for investigation.

In a similar incident on Friday, a drug smuggler was apprehended at a hideout along Indo-Myanmar border at Manipur sector and recovered around 11 Kgs of illegal drugs worth Rs 8 crores in the international market.

The apprehended drug smuggler has been identified as Ch Jamkhomang Mate along with a bag at around 3 pm on Thursday.

On examination of the bag, 11 packets of Methamphetamine drugs were found neatly concealed inside packets of tea leaves.

Stating that it was one of the biggest seizures of Methamphetamine drugs along the Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh, the Addl SP said, “The seizure showed a new trend among the international drug smugglers to which they have shifted from smuggling of contraband WY tablets and heroin powder to Methamphetamine, also known as crystal meth, ice etc through Moreh as a transit point to Indian markets.”
