TURA: Water is an essential resource for humankind. Yet year after year, the town of Tura struggles with shortage of water.Drinking water woes of Meghalaya for over 10 days caught the attention of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. The Assembly today focused on the water scarcity issue in Tura.

 

Speaking on the issue, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “Compared to the last few years, the quantity of water in the source at Tura has gone down drastically due to climate change and human activities".

"This is a concern of the entire state to protect our catchment areas because the dynamics are changing faster than we anticipated," he said.

The CM through his social media post informed that the government is taking necessary steps to preserve the catchment areas and construct new reservoirs in order to address the issue.

He also stated that recharging of groundwater and protection of springs is the key in fighting the water scarcity problem.

“Along with the government intervention, community participation is important to reverse climate change and its effect on our water resources,” Sangma further added.
