SHILLONG: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma today visited the Ganesh Das Hospital and Reid Provincial Chest Hospital, in the city, to review the installation of oxygen plants.

The oxygen generation plants in both these city hospitals are funded under the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM CARES) Fund.

The oxygen plant at Ganesh Das hospital has capacity of 400 LPM and can provide high flow oxygen to minimum of 40 beds, while the oxygen plant at RP Chest hospital has a capacity of 300 LPM and can support a minimum of 30 beds with high flow oxygen.

CM Sangma expressed his overall satisfaction with the progress of the installation work and informed that the plant at R P Chest hospital will be made operational in about two days’ time.

On the other hand, the plant at Ganesh Das hospital is already operational.

The chief minister also said that oxygen plants are being set up at different locations across the state.

‘We are keeping a close watch to ensure that these are completed on time and that all the different infrastructure is ready and in place, to deal with any eventuality, CM Sangma said.

During his visit, the chief minister also discussed with doctors and medical teams of both hospitals various issues including bed capacity and manpower requirement.

Meghalaya currently has 7788 active COVID-19 cases.

The state's COVID tally has risen up to 30492 while 22221 COVID patients have so far been recovered in the state.

The death toll related to COVID-19 stands at 483.
