It seems like Meghalaya's Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has also been bitten by the World Cup bug! The Meghalaya Chief Minister took to Twitter took to express his excitement after India won a thrilling encounter with 'minnows' Afghanistan on Saturday by the skin-of-their-teeth.
Taking to Twitter, Sangma wrote: "Congratulations team india for the victory and Mohammad Shami for the hat trick. Sweet victory indeed ...."
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya Chief Minister is not the only political leader from the Northeast to show a keen interest in sports. Earlier on Saturday, Sports Minister and firebrand BJP leader Kiren Rijiju lit up social media platform Facebook by posting an inspirational video. In the video, the Union Minister can be seen juggling tennis balls with amazing dexterity!
It may be mentioned that in a remarkable display of skill and control, Shami held his nerves to defend 16 runs in the final over of India’s match against Afghanistan.
Although Shami’s first ball was dispatched for a boundary, he rebounded with a dot ball and then cleaned up the final three wickets — Mohammad Nabi, Aftab Alam, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman in successive deliveries (two of them lethal yorkers) to guide India to their fourth victory in the tournament.
With this result, India continue their unbeaten streak in this edition of the cricket World Cup 2019.
Skipper Virat Kohli once again led from the front with a fighting knock of 67(63) as wickets continued to tumble at the other end. India won the thrilling encounter by 11 runs, but the standout performer of the match was no doubt Shami, who became only the second Indian bowler to take a World Cup hat-trick on Saturday after Chetan’s Sharma feat in 1987.
