Guwahati, November 10, 2019:

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has completed nearly 1000 km road trip to promote Act East Policy.

In the past four days, the CM has been on a road trip from Shillong to Bangladesh to boost trade ties between the State Government of Meghalaya and Government of Bangladesh. He has been actively promoting India’s Act East Policy in the neighboring country.

Speaking on the lines of strengthening relations, Sangma said that the main motive behind the road trip was to understand the problems of people personally. He said, “Our prime goal was to meet people personally and learn about their problems. It’s very easy to travel by flight but that way we cannot understand the problems of the public. For that, we have to be with the public. We have to take the path of the public.”

Calling the Bangladesh road trip a successful one, Sangma said that the trip offered a lot of learnings. “I learned a lot. I realized that there are many opportunities where we can grow. The Indian government, Meghalaya state government and the Bangladesh government can truly benefit if we join hands and work together in these areas,” added the CM.

Sangma believes that if the respective governments address the issues of the people, the problems can be solved and the overall trade relations can be developed to a great extent.
