Meghalaya CM dons PPE kit to reach midst of COVID-19 patients in Tura

TURA: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma today reached the midst of COVID-19 patients in the Tura Civil Hospital earlier today in full protective gear.

Taking to Twitter, Sangma revealed that he had worn a PPE Kit to inspect the Covid Ward at Tura Civil Hospital amid the second wave of the virus.

"Even for a short duration, it was uncomfortable to don the PPE kit. I cannot fathom the inconvenience that our #healthcare workers go through to care for our Covid patients every single day," he disclosed.

He also shared a picture in which he is seen presumably, evidently after having worn the protective equipment.

"My condition after wearing the PPE Kit at Tura Civil Hospital for a short while. Our #healthcare workers wear them for hours. For those still not taking COVID-19 seriously, this is the level of inconvenience our healthcare workers go through. Our safety will ensure theirs," he shared.

Sangma shared about his experience in a series of tweets that he sent out. He also shared pictures of his exploits.

In another tweet, Sangma commended the health workers for treating patients with compassion, overlooking their own inconvenience, sometimes working in extreme weather and high-risk conditions. "They deserve our utmost respect & appreciation. Thank them for all their hardwork & dedication," he added.

Interesting, Sangma showered at the hospital itself after visiting the ward and the doctors were generous enough to lend him some scrubs to wear.

"Protocol requires that after going to the COVID ward one has to take a shower which I did in the hospital and since I didn’t have extra clothes, was thankful to the doctors and medical staff for giving me medical scrubs," Sangma informed.
