The Meghalaya government has launched a manhunt to nab the preacher who had reportedly influenced many people in Khasi-Jaintia Hills to reject government schemes and abjure from taking party in electoral politics. This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong while addressing a gathering at Photjaud Ranthong in Mawkyrwat:
Tynsong said many families had stopped sending their children to schools, rejected the 100-day MGNREGS work and even refused to accept PDS benefits.
As reported in media then, a large number of people in Pynursla and Mawkynrew constituencies had abstained from voting during the Assembly election in February this year.
They reportedly did so out of fear for Aaadhaar cards, which they associated with the devil.
