Action against senior National People’s Party (NPP) leader Nidamon Chullet has been ruled by a senior NPP leader until incriminating evidence is found in the mob assault case. He has been accused of assaulting Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) leader Agnes Kharshing and social activist Amita Sangma. The two were investigating illegal rat-hole mines in the region.
Pressure has been mounting on the party to launch a CBI investigation ever since Amita Sangma, one of the victims of the assault, submitted an affidavit, asking for CBI intervention in the case, along with a picture of CM Conrad Sangma standing next to the accused, at the Shillong high court.
While speaking to the media, state president of the National People’s Party, WR Kharlukhi said that Chullet is innocent until proven guilty but would be expelled from the party if the court rules against him in the case. He further added that the photograph was taken before Sangma was the Chief Minister of the state.
