Meghalaya to welcome tourists from Sept 1

SHILLONG: With the positivity rate in Meghalaya coming down, the state government has announced to resume its tourism from 1st September. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday announced the reopening of the tourism sector with certain relaxations of COVID protocols for travelers.

Fully vaccinated tourists will be allowed to visit Meghalaya for tourism related purposes from 1st September.

CM Sangma through his Tweet informed that tourists who are unvaccinated or vaccinated with a single dose will have to produce negative RTPCR/TrueNat/CBNAAT report valid only if they have tested within 72 hours prior to their arrival at the entry point.

It was further informed that the local tourists from within the State that are fully vaccinated/vaccinated with single dose will be allowed to visit any location of the state for tourism purposes.

The Meghalaya government on Thursday decided to reopen classes in colleges from September 1, while schools in urban areas maybe allowed to reopen for students of classes 9 to 12.

The government had imposed lockdown across the state on May 5 amid the second wave of COVID-19 and has been relaxing the restrictions with an improvement in the pandemic situation.
