Mahatma Gandhi University, (also known as MGU) Meghalaya in collaboration with NABARD, organised a painting and essay writing competition today with great fervour & gaiety to mark ‘World Environment Day’ on it’s campus. Almost 50 students from Savio Higher Sec School, Don Bosco High School and St.Jude Sec School participated in the competition, theme being ‘air ’.
Various activities such as plantation of saplings & discussion on environmental issues were
held. University VC, Prof. Mohan Bhattacharya, registrar Dr Nayanmoni Saikia, Nabard District Development Manager Kamzalian Tomging and Nabard manager Ambiga Radhakrishnan inspired the students to work collectively for the protection of Earth &
emphasised on the need to build a greener world.
The university staff also motivated the students to contribute towards the protection of the environment.
It may be mentioned that the Mahatma Gandhi University (M.G.U) was established through Meghalaya State legislative Act, 2010 (Meghalaya Act No.6 of 2011), published in the Gazette of Meghalaya vide No.LL (B).138/2010/41.
