Minor Studying in Class 9 Allegedly Gangraped in Tripura

Despite the top Courts of the country pronouncing death sentences and life imprisonment to the rape accused of the infamous Nirbhaya and Unnao gangrape cases, the crime against women is yet an unending chapter.

The day the Unnao rape accused was sentenced to life imprisonment, a minor in Tripura was allegedly gangraped on Friday. The incident was reported at Sonamura of the Sepahijala district.

The Class IX student of Sonamura Girl's School on Friday afternoon went to a shop nearby while returning from school after her examination, from where she was abducted.

According to the locals, a gang of youths forcefully picked her up in a black-coloured Maruti ALTO car and in the evening, she was dropped at the Thakurmura area of Sonamura Municipality, near a graveyard.

The girl was rescued in an unconscious state by the locals of that area who rushed her to Sonamura Hospital. Following her critical state and profuse bleeding, she was shifted to Melaghar Hospital, nearby. Later, she was taken to the GB hospital late at night due to her critical condition.

Meanwhile, an investigation into the incident has been initiated under SDPO Souvik Deb who visited the spot of the incident.

Deb informed that the police have already identified one youth named Jahir Mia, who is a driver by profession. It has been also known that since the past few days, he had been disturbing the schoolgirl.
