AIZAWL: Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga had an online meeting with foreign minister of Myanmar Zin Mar Aung this morning.
Sources said they discussed the exodus of people from the neighbouring country to Mizoram and the steps the state was taking to provide shelter to the violence-hit refugees.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Myanmar in such challenging circumstances,” said Zoramthanga.
“Had a fruitful meeting (online) this morning with Zin Mar Aung, Hon'ble Foreign Minister, Myanmar. Our thoughts and prayers are with #Myanmar in these trying times,” Zoramthanga tweeted.
With "a human tragedy of enormous proportions occurring in Myanmar right in front of our eyes," Zoramthanga had on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and grant political asylum to refugees from Myanmar.
The Mizo National Front state government, which has provided issue-based support to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), is in favour of allowing Myanmarese refugees, even establishing a policy to help them.
“Every day terrified Myanmar citizens are struggling to cross over to Mizoram in search of shelter and protection,” Zoramthanga said, adding that “the entire country is in turmoil and innocent hapless citizens are being persecuted and killed by the military regime who are supposed to be their guardians and protectors.”
