Mizoram Assembly has introduced amendment bills to increase the salaries of the state’s Ministers and legislators.

According to the revised pay structure, the monthly salaries and allowances of the MLAs have been hiked to Rs. 1.50 lakh from the existing Rs. 65,000.

The amendment bills introduced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister TJ Lalnuntluanga, would also increase the salary of Chief Minister, Speaker, cabinet ministers and leaders of opposition.

Mizoram Chief Minister would now draw a salary of Rs. 1.84 lakh per month, the speaker would receive Rs. 1.73 lakh and the cabinet ministers and leader of the opposition would be paid Rs. 1.68 lakh respectively.

The Deputy Speaker would draw a monthly salary of Rs. 1.61 lakh while the ministers of state and deputy government chief would draw Rs. 1.57 lakh once the revised pay is notified in the gazette.

The pension of the legislators was also hiked Rs. 40,000 from the existing Rs. 25,000. Those elected would for more than one term would draw an additional pension of Rs. 5,000 per month.

The amendment bills introduced in the Parliament also increased the house building advance to legislators to Rs. 20 lakh from the existing Rs. 10 lakh.
