CHAMPHAI: Assam Rifles and Customs Department jointly seized a huge shipment of smuggled areca nuts in Champhai district of Mizoram. Six persons have also been detained.
"In a major success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Serchhip Battalion of 23 sectors Assam rifles under the aegis of Inspector general Assam rifles (East) and Customs Department, Champhai recovered huge quantity of smuggled Areca Nuts in Ruantlang on December 6," an official said.

The Operation was conducted by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs department based on specific information
According to an official release, the approximate cost of the recovered Areca nuts is Rs. 51 lakh in the international market.
As the customs department seized the smuggled items, they also detained one individual who cannot furnish valid documents.
