Naga Mother’s Association demands fair hearing for Mon minor gangrape victim

MON: The Naga Mother’s Association (NMA) has demanded justice against the  15-year-old minor victim who was waylaid and gang-raped on 20 June in Aboi, Mon district incident.

“While lauding the prompt action of the law enforcement agency in nabbing the accused, it is deeply pained to observe the upsurge in vicious violence against girls and women while the state is fighting the Covid pandemic, which has added to the insecurity of lives."

NMA President Abei-U Meru writing a letter to the Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister said, "While applauding the law enforcement agency's quick action in apprehending the accused, it was heartbreaking to see an increase in terrible violence against girls and women while the state is fighting the battle against the COVID pandemic, which has added to the insecurity of lives."

Urging the state government to pay close attention to ensuring that justice is served promptly, the NMA said, "delivering speedy justice to such victims will encourage people to have faith in the legal system.”

The Mon police after conducting a search operation on June 21 and 22 have arrested the six accused in the gang-rape case after and registered a case against the accused under (No. 004/21 U/S 376/354/34 1PC under section 4/8 the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.)

Several organisations had strongly condemned the incident and urged the appropriate authorities to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
