Nagaland CM Rio holds monsoon preparedness meeting

DIMAPUR: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio held a monsoon preparedness meeting through video conference at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Kohima today.

“Chaired a meeting with @StateDisaster, line depts, and DCs/Chairman DDMAs. Discussed matters related to road, emergency operation & response preparedness, availability of essential commodities etc,” Rio tweeted.

He said preparedness will help mitigate major disasters, if any, during the monsoon season.

At the meeting, Rio highlighted the importance of being well prepared to face the monsoon months from June to September in order to avert any major disaster during the erratic monsoon season of the State. He said this will save the lives and the State’s infrastructure like roads and buildings.

The meeting was attended by ministers, administrative heads of departments and heads of departments of the line departments and deputy commissioners of all the districts of the State.

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority briefed the meeting on its preparedness based on the metrological data, preparedness of the road sector by the PWD (Roads and Bridges) department, emergency operation and response preparedness by the Home Guard and Civil Defence/State Disaster Response Force.

Monsoon preparedness measures in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic was presented by the Health and Family Welfare department while the Food and Civil Supplies department highlighted its preparedness and availability of essential commodities.

During the meeting, an interaction with the deputy commissioners, who are the chairmen of the respective District Disaster Management Authority, was also held where they gave their feedback on monsoon preparedness.
