Dimapur, February 22, 2020:

The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has issued a seven-day ultimatum for the Excise Commissioner of the town to shut all the liquor shops and outlets in Dimapur.

The student body has also sought thorough checking of liquor flow in the town. DNSU, in a statement observed that liquor has negative impact on the public in general and youths in particular. Therefore, it has demanded that the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989 (NLTP) be implemented at the earliest.

“…the Excise department had shown enough lenience towards the sellers/producers/suppliers of Liquor in Dimapur. Therefore, DNSU and its constituent units have unanimously resolved to serve 7 days ultimatum to the Commissioner of Excise Dimapur to close down all the liquor shops, outlets and to strictly adhere with the rules and regulations laid down under Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act 1989,” said DNSU, in its statement.

DNSU has warned of untoward consequences if the Excise department fails to comply with the ultimatum.
