Nagaland Government Issues Alert due to Heavy Rains, Possible Landslides

Kohima, July 12, 2019:

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department has issued a weather update for the coming days.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall activity is expected in the State over the following week. Several other weather conditions will be seen during this time along with hefty showers.

The next few days will have Nagaland observing not only heavy rains and strong winds but also the possibility of flash floods, mud slides as well as land slides. As per the NSDMA, lighting strikes will also be a common feature during time time and these showers are expected to continue over the State of Nagaland until July 14.

The Northern half of Nagaland will be more vulnerable than the southern half and there is a bigger risk in places like Mon, Tizit, Tuli, Longleng, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Wokha, and Bhandari.

All the DDMAs and other line departments which are responsible to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities are requested to be alert to save life and properties during this period.

Through this press release, NSDMA, Home Department urges the public to be vigilant during this pre-monsoon period from lightning, gusty winds and thunderstorms. Public are requested not to shelter under large trees near the river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and flash floods.
