KOHIMA: The Nagaland government has decided to fund additional expenses for providing free COVID-19 vaccines and other related activities by cutting non-development expenditures by 20 per cent of its departments, an official informed.

"The government directed its departments to cut 20 percent under the non-development expenditure from the Budget Estimate 2021-22," the official said.

The costs around Rs. 47.68 crore will be mobilized of non-development expenditure. This will include travel and office expenses, motor vehicles and maintenance.

This is in the light of the Nagaland government's announcement to provide free vaccines to people in the age group of 18 to 44 years. The process to commence after the arrival of the vaccines.

Nagaland reported 309 COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, which was the highest single-day spike this year.

Active cases in the state now stand at 2,433 while the total Covid-19 tally so far is 15,580.
