DIMAPUR: Nagaland scored highest in Covid-19 surveillance reporting, according to an assessment of Covid-19 data reporting undertaken by a team of Stanford University, USA. The assessment was conducted in over 100 websites and apps in India.
As per the assessment, Nagaland scored 0.61 followed by Kerala with 0.57 and Ladakh with 0.52 in surveillance reporting.
The study by the Stanford University team showed the quality of Covid-19 from Nagaland is the best in the country. Two Indian students Abeynaya Gnanasekaran and Varun Vasudevan who are pursuing their PhD in Stanford University, along with few others of the university, conducted the study.
“By releasing the data, and its interpretation along with the public health recommendations, your government is empowering people to be proactive about their health,” Gnanasekaran and Vasudevan said in an email to Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Department on Tuesday.
They along with few others, led by Prof James Zou of Stanford University, have been evaluating reporting of Covid-19 surveillance data from the states in India since May 2020. “Reporting quality” refers to the presence/absence of a data item in the surveillance data published by the state government while age distribution for deaths is an example of such a data item.
Their findings from 20202 were published in BMC Public Health and the Journal of the Indian Institute of Science.
“Nagaland scored highest in our metric because of high quality granular data reporting through weekly bulletins. We are writing this email to appreciate the effort from the Nagaland government in making these bulletins available,” Gnanasekaran and Vasudevan said.
Meanwhile, Nagaland registered three Covid deaths and 80 new cases today. There were 27 recoveries in the last 24 hours.
