GUWAHATI: NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) defender Rakesh Pradhan has joined Odisha FC on loan for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) season.

Club sources said he switched loyalty to the Odisha outfit after he was allegedly told by sacked Spanish head coach Gerard Nus that there were thin chances of Pradhan making into the playing squad this season.

However, he is someone on whom interim coach Khalid Jamil had reposed faith in towards the end of the last season after head coach Robert Jarni was sacked.

Pradhan, who started his national league career with Shillong Lajong FC in the 2017-18 I-League, was signed by NEUFC last season. The Assam footballer made 15 appearances for NEUFC last season.

Welcoming Pradhan, Odisha FC head coach Stuart Baxter said: “Rakesh adds a little experience to our young squad. His natural left foot, quickness, and versatility will help to give us more balance.”

Odisha FC has won only one match so far in the current season of ISL.

After the switch of club, Pradhan said: “I am extremely delighted to be joining Odisha FC for the remaining games of the season. I’ll give my best for the team and looking forward to a very good association with my teammates and everyone at Odisha FC.”

NEUFC had on Friday signed Jamaican national Deshorn Brown from Bengaluru FC to replace injured striker Kwesi Appiah.

Club sources said, Appiah, who is nursing a quadricep muscle tear, is unlikely to be fit for the rest of the season.
