You've decided that MBA is the best course for you, and you are having strong motivation to pursue it, you have to consider two things while choosing an MBA. First, what specialisation you will take, and the next is what will be your schedule.
There are several specialisations in the field and you will have to choose one that will suit you. If you want to work with a large group of people, go with human resources; if finance is your field, take MBA with financial specialisation; you can also take general MBA courses. Of the long list, here are a few prominent specialisations: general management, human resource, consulting, IT management, operation management, marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, international business, strategic management. Certainly, you must choose your specialisation wisely.
When taking a full time course, one must make sure of covering the finances. There are several reputed institutions that offer MBA, but choose the one that will work best for you. If you're currently employed, you can take online or part time courses. Online is a good way to go. Nowadays, online courses hold as much value as offline courses. The exam for getting into an MBA program abroad is the GMAT exam. In India you will have to crack the CAT/MAT/CET to get into an MBA institute. Practice by working on lots of previous year question papers, and get a thorough understanding of what you should expect. When you reach the exam hall, you must have a good grasp of the expected syllabus. Time is the limitation in these exams, and so make yourself immune to time limitations by preparing well. Clearly, you should be aware of what to expect and have excellent practice.
When you're studying, it will be up to you how much advantage you are going to extract from it. While doing your MBA, none will be pushing you to move forward. You can do just enough to pass without arrears, or you can get top scores, or you can gather stuff for facing the world after graduation. I've just said flagrantly -- preparing to face the real world, but what is preparing to face the world? To be not just bookworms but also street smarts.
Along with understanding what's being instructed, gain lots of connections. In your campus life you can meet with like minded people. Watch out for good opportunities, of which, you will not be taught, but you must learn. Resolve to get the most out of your degree.
All institutions have special career development programmes for their students. Make the best out of them. Ask help from such groups and get an idea of what suits you best. After getting a clear idea of what you want, set realistic goals and move forward to achieve them.
You study your MBA for two years, but this doesn't promise placement. Companies don't hire because they see your degree. The process is just arduous, you will have to equip yourself with a lot of practice for the interview. You must face the interviewers, armed to teeth, with what they expect. Interviewers expect a Mr. Big from you. You get through all this, and when you get placed, "congratulations!"
This doesn't make you entitled, every single day you wake up, you will be proving you are worth it. The corporate world is filled to the brim with one thing -- mob of fanatics jockeying for your position. Like we said before, just remember, a degree doesn't mean you are entitled to a fixed job and a great salary. Keep pushing and pursuing your goals. Let's cross our fingers that you will have a successful career.
