KOLKATA: With the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee expected to win a third term in office, political strategist Prashant Kishor today announced his retirement from election management.
The poll strategist's decision comes as the TMC currently has a 207-seat lead over the BJP, with the BJP trailing with 82 seats as voted polled in 294 constituencies are being counted.
Despite a tough challenge from a resurgent BJP in West Bengal, Kishor who was the driving force behind the TMC's win in Assembly election, speaking to media, stated that he had been “contemplating quitting for too long and was searching for an opportunity” to do so. And Bengal gave him that chance.
Expressing confidence in the TMC's ability to win West Bengal, he had previously said that he would resign if the BJP won more than 100 seats in the assembly elections.

He had also slammed the BJP for attempting to hatch a huge conspiracy claiming that they were on their way to capture the throne of Kolkata.
Kishor further criticised the Election Commission for taking a deliberately biased approach towards West Bengal in favour of the BJP.
"From enabling the BJP to use faith, to arranging polls and bending laws, the EC went out of its way to support the saffron party. The EC has been acting like a BJP extension," he added.
