Nagaland Governor R N Ravi who on Monday was given additional charge of Meghalaya, took oath as Meghalaya Governor at Shillong’s Raj Bhavan on Tuesday noon, it was announced.
R N Ravi was posted as the Governor after the former Governor, Tathagata Roy, went on leave, days after his tweet sparked controversy in state capital Shillong, with around 10,000 protesters surrounding the Raj Bhavan on Friday.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, who welcomed Ravi with a bouquet of flowers, wrote on Twitter, "We welcome the Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland Sh. R N Ravi, who will be sworn in also as the Governor of Meghalaya."
Roy came under fire for expressing his support for the Citizenship Amendment Act with the following tweet, “Two things should never be lost sight of in the present atmosphere of controversy. 1. The country was once divided in the name of religion. 2.A democracy is NECESSARILY DIVISIVE. If you don’t want it go to North Korea.’’
The state of Meghalaya was already tense over the Bill, and the Governor’s tweet was the last straw. Thousands upon thousands gheraoed the Raj Bhawan demanding the immediate removal of Roy for his support for the controversial Act.
