GUWAHATI: The railway track electrification between Assam's Guwahati and Bihar’s Katihar has been completed, said the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

This development will provide continuous electric traction from New Delhi to Guwahati.

In addition to saving foreign exchange reserves spent on high-speed diesel (HSD) oil, it will ensure greener transportation and lower carbon footprints, according to a NFR spokesperson.

NFR has successfully completed electrification work from Katihar to Guwahati totaling 649 RKM 1,294 TKM.
Total HDN (High-Density Network) routes (649 RKM) in the NFR have thus been commissioned with electric traction, according to the spokesperson.
A route kilometre (RKM) represents the total distance travelled by a train to reach its destination, whereas a tonne-kilometer (TKM) represents the transport of one tonne of goods by a given mode of transportation.

This incredible achievement will now connect New Delhi to Guwahati via seamless electric traction.

This is yet another effort by NFR to improve capital connectivity through Green Transportation.

The inspection of 107 RKM/273 TKM was undertaken from October 7 to 9.

Passenger trains with higher speed and heavier goods trains can now be run, the spokesperson said.
