Former Manipur Law Secretary Laishom Ibomcha has charged Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju of misleading the Rajya Sabha on the Indo-Myanmar border issue.
He pointed out that while the annual reports of the Union Ministry for Home Affairs (MHA) of 2013-14 and 2017-18 stated that India shares a 1,643-km border with Myanmar, Rijiju had said in his reply to Manipur Rajya Sabha Member Ksh Bhavananda that the Indo-Myanmar border was 1,472 -km long, out of which 171 km was to be demarcated through a mechanism, which the two countries had established.
Stating that there was a discrepancy of 171 km, which allegedly showed that Rijiju was misleading the House, Ibomcha demanded appropriate action on the matter.
The former senior bureaucrat also called for re-demarcation of the unsettled portions of the international border by re-identifying boundary pillars in the Manipur sector with participation of people from both sides of the international divide at the earliest.
