District Magistrate of Churachandpur has issued Section 144 CrPC prohibiting an assembly of five or more people or carrying any stick sword or any lethal weapon that can disturb the peace and tranquility in the region.
The restriction was imposed from 8 am on the morning of September 30 and will continue until any further orders.

In the notification issued by District Magistrate, Pawan Yadav stated, “Reports have been received from the Sub- Divisional Police Officer, Churachandpur that there has been a prevailing law and order situation in Hiangtam Lanka area and there are possibilities of occurrence of violence incidences leading to breach of public order and tranquillity, especially near PTC Hall.
It may be mentioned an unrest situation has been prevailing in the state of Manipur relating to different issues.
Earlier, on September 4, the District Magistrate had imposed Section 144 in connection with the death of a suspected drug peddler. One Sub Inspector, an Assistant Sub- Inspector and three police constables were suspended in the case.

The suspected peddler, identified as Giniam Munluo (44), had reportedly committed suicide in a cowshed after the five police personnel tortured him in charge of dealing with contraband drugs.
