Imphal, July 30, 2019:

Security personnel consisting of a column of the Assam Rifles and Manipur police commandos, in a series of joint counter insurgency operations, seized two sophisticated weapons and ammunition in an insurgent hideout at B Gamnom village in Manipur.

The combined team searched the suspected spots of the B Gamnom village and recovered an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 9 live rounds, a lathode gun with four shells, 47 AK 47 rounds and an unexploded lathode shell, concealed underground at a farmhouse belonging to the village chief of B Gamnom, Henkhothang Kipgen on Sunday, police said here on Tuesday.

The operations were launched by the security personnel after the arrest two persons who are allegedly responsible for killing of Henkhothang Kipgen (71) and Demkhosat Kipgen (66) on July 10. The recovered arms and ammunition were handed over to Thoubal Dam Police Station for necessary legal process, the police said.

The combined team of Imphal East commando and a column of 26 Assam Rifles carried out the massive counter insurgency operations at the villages of B Hengjang, Saichang, Bongbal Khullen, NP Khullen, Keihao, Molkon, Mongjang and Songphel from July 11 onwards.

Meanwhile, the Kuki National Front (NEHLUN) while condemning the killings of these two Kukis said that the outfit will try its best for finding the real culprits and impart befitting punishments

Though the police blamed the killings to the KNF (H), the outfit has not claimed responsibility for the killings so far.
