The occasion of Vijay Diwas was marked by a celebration in Shillong yesterday as a tribute to the fallen soldiers of the Indo-Pak war of 1971. In a solemn ceremony, DS Ahuja, AVSM, General Officer Commanding 101 Area laid a wreath at the War Memorial to commemorate the contribution of soldiers who had lain down their lives.
The event culminated with a dinner hosted on eve of Pakistan’s surrender on 16 December. The Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Tathagata Roy, was the Chief Guest. 101 Area located at Shillong, played a pivotal role in the success of the operations in East Pakistan and was the first formation of the Indian Army to enter Dhaka.
