The Bar Association of Sikkim has announced a financial assistance of Rs 2,500 to the fledgling lawyers who are need of money in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak that has ceased the functioning of the Courts across the State.
The organization has announced this "in view of many of the members of the Bar being rendered without work because of the lockdown throughout the country to fight the spread of COVID-19" for the young members of the Bar Association of Sikkim who are "genuinely in need of financial assistance".
The grant, however, will only be issued to the members of the Bar with less than five years of practice (below 5 years as on May 2020 starting from the date of enrollment).
"The same shall be provided only to the members who are enrolled with the Bar Association of Sikkim and are genuinely in need of assistance", read a notice issued by the association.
In order to take the benefit of the same, members are required to write an application addressed to the General Secretary of the Bar Association of Sikkim and to mail it to an address (barassociationofsikkim2015@gmail.com) along with the following details:
Name and Address;
Enrollment Certificate or Identity Card of Bar Council;
Identity Card: issued by the Bar Association of Sikkim
(If Identity Card has not been issued, Copy of membership fee payment receipt or any other document to prove membership with the Bar Association of Sikkim can be produced)
Bank Details of the member The last date for the submission of the same shall be on or before May 17 next.
After the receipt of the applications, they will be placed before the executive body for scrutiny and the amount shall accordingly be released once the executive body approves the same.
"The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the entire world and India has been no exception. For the first time in the history, the Courts are totally shut down and the same has affected the members of the Bar especially the younger members of the Bar", the association said in its communique.
"As a responsible Association, we owe a duty to protect and safeguard the interest of our young members", the organization added.
