Prem Singh Tamang, popularly known as PS Golay, who was sworn in as Sikkim Chief Minister on Monday, has immediately taken an initiative to bring about a change in the hill state.
Golay's first move after taking oath has been to announce a five-day work culture for all employees working under the Sikkim Government.
Golay informed this to media persons after interacting with senior officials. Golay said that the new administration is fulfilling one of its campaign promises -- that is, to reduce the working week for Government employees earlier to five days a week.
Golay said that the extra holiday can now be used to take care of their health and that of their family members.
The new Chief Minister has also said that the Government officials will now switch to Scorpio SUVs from the high-fuel consuming Fortuners which they had been using earlier.
The money saved from using less expensive vehicles like the Scorpio will be used for the betterment of the people of Sikkim.
Golay has also said that he will always seek the advice of former Chief Minister Pawan Kr. Chamling, who ruled for twenty-five years, to run the Government.
Earlier in the day, the 51-year-old Golay was sworn in as the sixth Sikkim Chief Minister along with eleven ministers by Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasada at the Paljor stadium in Sikkim capital Gangtok.
The Golay-led Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) was able to win the 2019 Assembly election in the hill state by a slender margin against long-serving Chief Minister Pawan Chamling's Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF). The SKM party won seventeen seats, while the SDF could secure wins in fifteen Assembly Constituencies. The 'magic number' in Sikkim is seventeen seats.
