Agartala, December 2, 2019:

A 12-hour Bandh in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) areas was called by the Tripland State Party (TSP) on Monday. Other regional parties of the Tiprasa community also supported today’s strike.

Normal life came to a complete halt at Khumulwng, which houses the headquarters of TTAADC, due to the bandh. Officials, employees and teachers also preferred to stay at home fearing untoward incidents.

According to reports, the strike has been a success and no vehicle movement has been seen since the morning.

Shutters remained down at Khumulwng Market and Mandwai Composite market in the Tripura tribal area, while most of the schools did not open due to the strike called in protest against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

TSP leader Chittaranjan Debbarma said that they called the bandh due to two primary demands; the first demand is the withdrawal of the controversial CAB, and second is the demand for a separate state.

He said that the people of the TTAADC have supported the bandh, which proves that in spirit, the people are with the party.

Notably, on 19 November, the TSP had staged a similar demonstration and 12-hour hunger strike, demanding a separate state and opposing the Bill which is likely to be tabled during the ongoing Parliamentary session.
