The Tripura Government has decided to provide shelter to about 150 people hailing from the State, who are stranded across the country due to the pan-India lockdown for 21 days.
Sources in the government said, "contact numbers of those stranded in several parts of the country have been shared in the social media as well as official websites. As of now, not less than 150 people have contacted us who are stuck somewhere in India."
Speaking to this reporter, Tripura Transport Secretary L Darlong said, “We have received calls from different parts of the country where people of Tripura are stuck or stranded. Due to the lockdown, we cannot bring them to Tripura but temporary arrangements are being made to offer them shelter”.

Tripura people, he said, have contacted us from West Bengal, Guwahati, Upper Assam, Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru.
As per the reports, 48 people who went to Agra as tourists are stuck at a hotel. Tripura government is writing to the Uttar Pradesh government to offer them shelter over there. In West Bengal, 10 people are stuck, who have been asked to report to the Tripura Bhavan.
In Assam, 21 passengers are stuck who boarded a train. They have been given shelter by the Railways. People are also stuck in Hyderabad and Telangana who work there, Darlong added.
The Development, however, come in the wake of a committee formed by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to assist the people stranded in different parts of the country. Transport Secretary L Darlong, Secretary P&C Apurva Roy and IG R Gopal Rao have been appointed as members of the committee.

Meanwhile, as of now there are no positive reports of COVID-19 in Tripura. More than 4000 people having travel history to corona-hit places had been self quarantined along with 69 people under isolation. Among the 69, none of them tested positive, sources in the health department said.
It may be mentioned here that the total number of coronavirus or (COVID-19) cases in India has now risen to 902, with 21 deaths being recorded as per the latest data from the Health Ministry and State Governments.
Internationally, 27,370 deaths have been reported till date due to the coronavirus, with a large chunk of those being reported from Italy (9,134). In all, 597,458 people have been infected by the virus till now, with 133,373 having recovered. Somewhat gravely, 23,559 are said to be in a “serious” condition.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the US has now overtaken China with 1,04,256 reports of the virus reported in the country. Italy is second with 86,498 cases, while China has 81,394 cases. Notably, Italy has recorded the most number of deaths at 9,134. It is expected that the US, which has seen 1,704 deaths so far, will continue to see an uptick in the number of corona cases as the world medical community struggles to find a solution to the coronavirus that is spreading at an unprecedented rate.
Meanwhile, the Government of India has announced a a Rs 1.7 lakh crore stimulus to help those hit by the 21-day lockdown in the country. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das also on Friday deferred the EMIs on housing, personal and auto loans for three months.
