AGARTALA: Four nominations were rejected after the papers were scrutinised ahead of the election to the Tripura Autonomous District Council (ADC).

 

On Monday, nomination papers were scrutinised in various SDM offices around the state, with four nominations being rejected.

 

A total of 185 candidates had submitted their nomination papers, after the scrutiny, now a total of 181 candidates are in the fray for the election.

 

Dummy candidates from the CPI-M (1), Congress (1), and JD(U)-Janata dal United (2) had their nomination papers rejected.

 

14 BJP candidates, 17 Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) candidates, 28 Left Front candidates, 30 candidates from other parties, 28 Congress candidates, five Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) candidates, and 59 independent candidates are currently in the fray.

 

11 candidates filed nomination papers in the Ompinagar ADC constituency, which had the largest number of candidates. Raimavelly has nine contestants, while Kanthalia-Mirza-Rajapur has eight.

 

The Chamanu ADC constituency has the lowest number of candidates, with just four people submitting nominations.

The withdrawal of nomination is March 17.

 

As a protest against the alliance with IPFT, rebel Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters and workers filed nominations in many constituencies.

According to reports, senior BJP leaders are attempting to convince the rebel leaders to withdraw their nominations," according to party sources.

 

The ADC election for a total of 28 seats is scheduled to be held on April 6.

The counting of the vote will be held on April 10.
