AGARTALA: Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday has announced that his government has decided to provide Rs 95, 000 to each family as compensation whose houses, shops were fully damaged due to the nor’wester which hit Tripura’s Khowai district two days back.
Speaking to the media, CM Deb said in Khowai district many schools, shops, government schools were destroyed due to a recent nor’wester.
“I couldn’t visit the spot due to election campaign but my MLAs and Tribal welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia visited the spot. The Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar had also inspected the spot and decided to give Rs 5, 000 as preliminary relief,” CM Deb said.

Around 200 schools, houses were destroyed because of the storm.
“Within two days the government will give all relief funds after assessment. We have also decided that those houses or shops which were fully damaged, the state government will provide Rs 95, 000. The government will provide additional help if required,” he added.
He however said providing relief to victims of natural disasters is not a violation of election rules.
Many people can raise objections about this. But it is not the case that the chief minister or the MLA will not stand by the people.
While replying to a question on COVID-19, the chief minister appealed everyone to follow central and state government’s guidelines to tackle the situation.
“Corona is increasing indeed. So everyone has to be careful. All the guidelines given by the central and state governments must be followed. Social distance must be maintained. Tripura is among the top five states in terms of success in dealing with Corona. We were able to reach that place only because people of my state were aware of the COVID”, the chief minister said.
