Tripura: Brus Launch Massive Rally to 'Thank' Royal Pradyot ManikyatRIPURA

Agartala, January 20, 2019:

Thousands of Bru refugees, who would be settled in Tripura after the signing of a quadripartite agreement between the Centre and stakeholders, took to the streets of Kanchanpur to 'thank' royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman for his efforts in helping all parties reach an understanding.

The Bru leaders extended their gratitude towards the royal for his initiatives which finally brought positive results for the refugees sheltered in six relief camps in Tripura since 1997. A huge number of Bru women also participated in today's rally.

Earlier, one of the Bru organizations had written a letter thanking him and extended their gratitude.

Reacting to these outpourings of love, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman said that everybody helped to resolve the issue and this was an "united attempt".

"See, I am not an elected representative. What I can do is to raise a voice. I personally met Home Minister Amit Shah three times regarding the issue. Finally, it got settled and I am very much happy", Pradyot told us over phone.

He also said that he was vocal for the interest of the Brus since the proposed BSF firing range issue came to the fore.

"I asked the government to settle Brus in Tripura when a BSF firing range was proposed to be built here. Since then, I have pleaded the government to resolve their plight, and finally, the Government has decided to solve these problems” he added.

On being asked on CAA, he said, his petition challenging the law will come up for hearing on Wednesday, and there would be no compromise on the issue.
