In an unprecedented incident, a police constable of Kachuchara police station was detained by Teliamura police today for allegedly attempting to snatch a newly born baby from the custody of 'child line' members at Teliamura in Khowai district of Tripura.
Reportedly, the new born baby was carried to the GBP hospital in Tripura capital Agartala by representatives of child line when the police constable allegedly tried to snatch the baby from the custodians. Later, the police safely escorted the child line members to the hospital.
The baby girl was spotted laid beside the road at Abhanga area of Kamalpur police station last Thursday.
Police constable of Kachuchara police station Biswajit Chakraborty recovered the baby child and admitted her to the Kulai district hospital. After observing her worsening situation, doctors of Kulai hospital referred her to GBP hospital.
The doctors approached the Child line officials to safely take her to Agartala this morning. Accordingly, two representatives of child line Agartala rushed to Kulai hospital.
They had taken the baby along and started for Agartala in an ambulance.
As they reached Netajinagar motor stand, Teliamura, the constable Biswajit Chakraborty stopped the ambulance and resisted the Child line officials.
He snatched the keys away and allegedly fought with the child line members. Soon, the locals intervened and saved the child and child line members from him.
The constable was handed over to the police and the baby was sent to Agartala with police escort. Speaking to the media persons, police constable Biswajit Chakraborty said that he was wanted to get the child, but revealed nothing.
