Tripura: Doctor, BSF jawans test positive for COVID-19, alarms state

A doctor posted at Akhaura integrated Check post in Agartala in Tripura tested positive for the COVID-19 on June 7th, 2020. The doctor has been shifted to Saheed Bhagat Singh Youth hostel, state's biggest COVID-19 treatment Centre.

Few of the BSF jawans, who came to direct contact with the doctor, also tested positive for the lethal virus.

Speaking to the media persons, a highly placed health official in West Tripura said, “She was posted at several COVID treatment centers earlier. We are suspecting that she had contracted the virus there as few of the BSF Jawans posted there also found to be exposed to the virus. Her samples were collected a while back after she went to Home Quarantine after completion of her COVID-19 duty. As of now, she is completely stable and there are no symptoms.”

A team of COVID-19 response including Sub-divisional magistrate Sadar Ashim Saha rushed to the spot and sent her to the treatment Centre. “She has come in contact of the patients in the line of her duty. We all respect her. As a doctor, she has to attend the patients. She has worked in different centers and she has been tested positive. She has also accepted the matter as a usual thing as it could take place anywhere.”

Her husband would be also subjected to a COVID-19 swab sample test and was shifted to facility quarantine straight away after his wife tested positive.

Notably, a new COVID-15 treatment Centre would be opened soon here in Tripura as the COVID-19 graph was surging gradually. District Magistrate Sepahijala CK Jamatia said, “We have already begun working to set up a 50-bed strength COVID-19 treatment centre at Sagarmahal guest house located at beside of Rudrasagar which will be directly managed by Lalsinghmura primary health centre.”

On being asked of the overall COVID-19 scenario, he said, “There are altogether 3 containment zones in the state and people who are coming outside the district ate being tested by the district administration. Until now, more than 2,500 people have been tested.”

COVID-19 scenario in Tripura & Northeast

Assam has registered highest number of COVID-19 cases followed by Tripura in Northeast India. The lethal virus has infected 2681 people in Assam while 800 in Tripura and 172 in Manipur.

India COVID-19 cases so far

India has crossed 2 lakh-mark in terms of corona positives on June 3rd. On June 8th, the country currently has 2,47,000+ confirmed COVID-19 cases, 125381 active cases with 124094 cured and discharged. The total number of deaths is 7135.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 3 thousand deaths. It has recorded 85975 corona cases with 39314 cured, 3060 deaths, and 43601 active cases. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has corona 27654 cases with 10664 cured, 761 deaths, and 16229 active cases. Tamil Nadu has 31667 positive cases with 16999 cured, 269 deaths 14399 active cases. Gujarat with 20070 COVID-19 cases, so far, has 13635 have been cured, 1249 deaths, and 5186 active cases.
