In a significant development, the first COVID-19 positive case of Tripura has been tested negative in two consecutive tests, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb confirmed. Deb also informed that the second case, a jawan of Tripura State Rifles (TSR), is "stable now".
Announcing the development in his official social media handles, Deb wrote, "In a major development, the test reports of first COVID 19 patient of Tripura have come negative for second consecutive time. Health condition of the patient is improving, if the same thing continues soon she will be shifted to quarantine and will be under surveillance."
Meanwhile, sources in the health department said that the second case that had been spotted on April 10 last had been also recovering well.
In the meantime, as a precautionary measure, the North Tripura District police has already published a list of people who came in contact with the infected TSR jawan.
“About 40 people have been identified as high risk contacts of the second patient. The person has also commissioned for lockdown duty, thus, there are apprehensions that those people come direct contact of the person” a source said under the condition of anonymity.
As of now, altogether 10,736 people have been kept under surveillance among which 10,026 completed the stipulated period of 14 days in observation.
Altogether, 183 persons are under surveillance right now in facility quarantine along with 527 persons who are under surveillance at homes, taking the total tally to 710. The number of samples collected as of now is 563, out of which 515 samples have been tested and 513 have tested negative. Two people in the state, however, have tested positive.

It may be added here that Meghalaya has reported its first positive case of the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 on April 13. The first positive case is a 69-year-old doctor from the Bethany Hospital in Shillong, Inside Northeast sources have confirmed. The Shillong Agglomeration is now under complete curfew for two days, starting from 6 am on April 14. At the same time, all who were in the hospital in the recent past have been urged to report to the CM's helpline number of 108.
However, soon after, the lines got clogged due to an overflow of calls, because of which another helpline has been established. "Due to heavy traffic in the helpline no 108, we have activated 1070 no for citizens to call and register, who have visited Bethany Hospital on or after March 22", the CM took to Twitter to announce.
On April 12, Nagaland had reported its first case of the COVID-19, a man from Dimapur who had tested positive in Assam. Assam, meanwhile, has reported 31 cases of the virus.
