The Government of Tripura has come up with a unique plan to encourage students to pursue Science and Mathematics after it came to light that there is very low enrollment in the science stream in class XI.
From class I to X science and mathematics is compulsory for every students. But while after passing the secondary or Class X exam they students have no interest to select science or mathematics for their future study. The main reason is fear about mathematics and science.

The Tripura BJP government has planned to arrange extra coaching classes in schools for the students who are studying in class IX and X, and announced a scholarship for their encouragement.
Under the scheme, students will get encouragement allowance and special coaching on mathematics for four hours in a week. The scheme will be taken up to the next cabinet meeting for approval.

State education minister Ratan Lal Nath told to the reporters that, this year 32,223 students got admission in class XI, but of those, only 3,690 students have been admitted in the science stream.
The Minister said that only 11.45 percent students took science for their future study. He also said that only 3,114 Class XI students took mathematics as a subject.
The Government plans to provide an allowance of Rs. 500 to each student to have passed Xth standard to drive them to pursue science and mathematics.
Teachers who will take special classes for the students, will get Rs. 500 per hour class. As per the plan, each student needs to undergo four-hour special class in a week.
"If the scheme is launched, the students will get proper guidance regarding science and mathematics. This will clear the doubts and fear on core subjects of science. Future is bright for those students who pursue science and mathematics", the Minister added.
