Tripura State Government has decided to seek permission from the Supreme Court to reappoint the 10, 323 ad hoc teachers, who had been terminated by the apex court earlier.
In an apparent bid to end the long standing impasse of the 10,323 ad-hoc teachers, the state government has decided to move the Apex Court with an interlocutory petition seeking its permission to recruit 10,323 teachers in various posts laid vacant in several government departments.
The posts are completely “departmental” in manner, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who happens to be the cabinet spokesperson told reporters here.

Addressing a hastily convened press conference here in the civil secretariat after the special cabinet meeting, Nath said, “There are altogether 10,618 posts vacant in several departments. We will petition the Supreme Court to permit us so that we can rehabilitate the teachers directly in those posts whose services stand cancelled with effect from April 1, 2020”.
“The matter has been decided in the special cabinet meeting convened today and the petition is being drafted by the standing counsel of the state with a hope that the matter would be heard on urgent basis”, Nath informed media.
Nath said, in the posts there are some promotional posts, group C and group D. To avert any possible legal hassle the government is pleading the court in “clean hands” to permit the government.

Among the 10,323, he said, there are 4375 under graduate, 3761 are graduate and 746 are post graduate. They have the qualifications to be appointed in the other departments of the government which stands as the “only feasible option” before the government to save their life and livelihood, Nath told a media conference.
He also observed that the teachers were protesting since months now despite imposition of section 144 which could be seen as a big threat in view of the corona pandemic. He also claimed that the government was committed to fulfill all its promises and this had been shown once again.
“We have taken the step in view of the emerging humanitarian crisis that may occur if the ad hoc teachers are terminated as not less than 50,000 people were associated with them for bread and butter” Nath added. However, Nath failed to specify anything regarding the jobs that would be given to the teachers and said that everything would come clearer once the Supreme Court clears the matter.
