Tripura introduces penalty for violation of COVID-19 protocol

AGARTALA: The Tripura government has introduced penalty for violation of COVID-19 protocol in the state.

Chief secretary Manoj Kumar has issued a directive imposing certain restrictions in view of the recent increase in positive cases in the state.

People who breach the COVID-19 protocols in Tripura will now be fined Rs 200, which will be doubled if they breach the rules again.

People must maintain social distance and wear face masks if they leave their homes, as well as while driving, the order said.

Those who do not wear face masks will be fined Rs 200 for the first time and Rs 400 for a second time offence.

Ten people have tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours. Three of these came from outside Tripura.

The order also requires vendors in markets to keep a certain distance between themselves and their customers.

Those who do not follow the rules will be fined Rs 1000, which is in line with the Union health ministry's order, which will be in effect till April 30 this year.

In March this year, 86 people in Tripura tested positive for COVID-19.

In Tripura, there have been 33,503 positive cases so far, with 33,042 people being cured of the infection.

In the province, 389 people have died as a result of the disease.
