In a bizarre incident, a man from Tripura, Brajalal Debbarma, has written to the Government, asking for poison, so that he can end his life. The reason for this, according to the letter, is the non-payment of salary.
In the letter, addressed to the Sub-divisional Magistrate of Belonia, South Tripura, the man writes: "I would like to enlighten you that my wife and I have been repeatedly requesting you to kindly make payment of my monthly salaries. But, unfortunately, no response has been given from your kind end till date."
The man further states that his family members are passing hard days without required food and medicines for the want of money.

The subject of the letter was: "prayer for supply of poison for me and my family members and there-of".
It may be mentioned here that the Indian economy has taken a nosedive in recent times, with the GDP plunging to its lowest levels. Meanwhile, it is predicted that the upcoming financial year will only see a GDP growth of only 4.9%, far below the national norm.
Incidents like these show the pitiable condition of the people hit by the downward spiral taken by the economy in recent times. Moreover, the rising prices of essential communities, such as onions (which is now being sold at a whopping Rs 140/kilo in some places, reportedly) is making people ponder upon such drastic measures.
In Assam, many former employees of the paper mills that were shut down committed suicide after their lives were thrown into disarray.
