Former Chief Minister of Tripura and CPI-M Politburo member Manik Sarkar on Friday slammed the Supreme Court for its verdict in the Ajodhya land dispute.
On 6 December,1992, 'Babri Masjid' was demolished at Ayodhya. Observing this day as 'Save Constitution' day, the CPIM organized a program at paradise Chowmuhani on Friday evening.
Manik Sarkar addressed a gathering there and heavily criticized the Supreme court verdict on the Ayodhya land dispute.

The Tripura CPI (M) leader said that Ramayan was written by many authors. In the Balmiki and Tulsidas versions of the Ramayan, it has been not mentioned where Ram was born and when, said adding "in the 'Skanda Puran' it has been written that Ram was born at Ayodhya, but where, it was not mentioned".
Sarkar said that no judgment should be pronounced based on belief only. He again said that in the verdict SC told that the demolishing of the Babri Masjid is illegal.
Manik Sarkar said that the illegal work was not done by the minority people of our country. It was done by the religious majority people of our country.
He said that the Supreme Court ordering the central government to form a trust and handed over the land to the trust to constitute Ram Mandir is "illegal", said Manik Sarkar and said, according to our Constitution, government cannot interfere in any religion.
In our country Govt has no right to interfere in religious issues, he said, adding: "Where is our unity’s value today standing after 74 years of Independence? Who will secure the secularism and democracy then if not Supreme Court? Can law work in this way?"
Manik Sarkar also raised question on Archeological survey and said that those who conducted the survey had a "biased mindset."
The former Tripura CM also raised the issue of Shabarimala temple case. He said the SC five member bench referred that case to higher body while the pronounced verdict of Ayodhya. He asked, was SC trying to happy anyone?
“Centering the verdict, a mixed response came from across the country. Before demolishing the Babri mosque, a tensed situation was created all across the country. Public were hoping for a neutral judgment, but the verdict is contradictory to the beliefs of a democracy. Most importantly, it violates the Constitution which decrees all religions are equal”, said Manik Sarkar.
