Bru leaders under the banner of 'Mizoram Bru Indigenous Democratic Movement' thanked Tripura's royal scion, Pradyot Manikya, for helping resolve the decades-long problem of the settlement of over 30,000 Bru refugees living in Tripura State who had fled an ethnic conflict in Mizoram in 1997.
In a joint statement, they also thanked the leaders who have promised a package of Rs 600 Cr to settle them in Tripura.
Extending a "GREAT BIG THANKS" to Manikya for his "restless ambition and sincere support", the Bru leaders also named several others (including PM Modi, Amit Shah, and Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb) in their letter of thanks.

In addition, the Bru leaders extended their gratitude to NGOs such CYBA, BSCO, BSCORSS, Bharat Hit Raksha Abhiyan, Kalyan Ashram, religious organizations, civil society, and all the regional political leaders of Tripura, including NC Debbarma, and Minister Mevar KR Jamatia, and Mam Patal Kania Jamatia.
The Bru leaders further stated that they are praying that the people who enabled the solution to the 'Bru problem' would be "blessed with resources" to keep helping the Brus in the times to come.
On Thursday, displaced Brus from Mizoram, living as refugees in Tripura since 1997, were allowed to permanently settle in Tripura. The agreement, allowing 30,000 Bru tribals to permanently settle in Tripura, took 20 years and nine attempts in the making, and was signed between the Centre, the state governments of Tripura and Mizoram, and Bru-Reang representatives in the national capital in the presence of union home minister Amit Shah.
